DBT California

DBT California is a team of award winning clinicians and scholars. We are dedicated to bringing you state of the art, scientifically sound treatments. Our DBT programs were founded by leaders in the field of treatment and research in Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D. at the University of Washington. DBT is focused on helping patients with problems regulating emotions. Typically, but not exclusively, for patients with Borderline Personality Disorder, DBT has multiple clinical trials demonstrating its effectiveness. DBT California offers comprehensive DBT programs for adults with intensively/comprehensively trained staff. For a program to call itself DBT it must have all of the following components:

  1. Individual Therapy
  2. Group Skills Training
  3. In-between session coaching
  4. DBT therapist weekly consultation meeting

Lynn McFarr, Ph.D. started the first comprehensive DBT program in the Los Angeles area in the late 1990s. In 2008, Dr. McFarr founded DBT California, offering high-fidelity, comprehensive DBT in four locations- Orange County (Newport Beach), Torrance, and the Beverly Hills/Mid Wilshire (Los Angeles) and San Diego.  For more information on how to choose a DBT program, please click here.
