Dr. Wydo’s training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy began at the Albert Ellis Institute and continued through his post-doctoral training at the Cognitive Therapy Institute of San Diego. He is a graduate of Penn State University, Marywood University, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his APA accredited internship at the University of San Diego Counseling Center and became a Psychologist for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego, CA. Dr. Wydo moved to the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner, North Carolina to be a Specialty Program Coordinator and has directed substance abuse and rehabilitation programs. Dr. Wydo is currently the Chief Psychologist at FCI Terminal Island, a federal prison in Los Angeles. He manages a large psychology department to include two substance abuse programs, an APA accredited doctoral internship program, and a program for chronically mentally ill inmates. He is the Employees Assistance Program Coordinator, and the Institutional Diversity Manager. Dr. Wydo is also an Adjunct Professor at the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University, Southern California.
Dr. Wydo is licensed as a Psychologist in California, and a Board Certified Specialist in Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Psychology, an Associate Fellow at the Alert Ellis Institute. Dr. Wydo is the Vice-Chair of the Forensic Issues and Externalizing Behaviors Special Interest Group of ABCT. His research interests include the assessment and treatment of anger, aggression, and violence. He is the author of The Angry Cognitions Scale-Prison Form. Dr. Wydo provides lectures and workshops on CBT with Children and Families, CBT with Older Adults, Anger Management, Diagnosis and Treatment of Personality Disorders, and Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision.
Dr. Wydo provides CBT treatment for adults and adolescents in the Newport Beach office.
