Courtney Maliakkal is a clinical psychology doctoral student at Azusa Pacific University. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2020 and a Master of Arts degree in clinical psychology from Azusa Pacific University in 2022. Courtney has experience working with adolescents and adults with a variety of clinical concerns such as substance use, anxiety, depression, and trauma. She previously externed at a substance use disorder rehabilitation site, assisting with clinical care and assessments. She has also worked as a therapist at Azusa Pacific University Community Counseling Center and the local high school in the Azusa Unified School District. Courtney’s dissertation focuses on examining mental health psychopathology in youth who are in remission from substance use disorders to evaluate whether their mental health needs are being met in treatment. She hopes that her research will contribute to the field and assist in refining mental health care to better understand individuals and their unique treatment needs.
